This is a rare December 18th, 1949 "Playgoer" playbill from the National Tour engagement of the groundbreaking RICHARD RODGERS and OSCAR HAMMERSTEIN II musical comedy "OKLAHOMA!" at the Curran Theatre in San Francisco, California. (The Original Broadway production opened March 31st, 1943 at the St. James Theatre in New York City and ran for 2212 performances while simultaneously playing on the road.) ..... The ensemble cast included PATRICIA NORTHRUPas "Laurey, RIDGE BOND as "Curly", MARY MARLO as "Aunt Eller", OWEN MARTIN, WARREN SCHMOLL, HENRY AUSTIN, WALTER DONAHUE, HENRY CLARKE, SARA DILLON, JERRY MANN, PATRICIA JOHNSON, CLAIRE PASCH, DONNA PHILLIPS, BETSY SCOTT, AUDREY CARRIER, JOAN BOWMAN, DAVE MALLEN, ROBERT EARLY, ROY MILTON and RAY DORIAN ..... CREDITS: Music by RICHARD RODGERS; Book and Lyrics by OSCAR HAMMERSTEIN 2nd based on the play "Green Grow the Lilacs" by LYNN RIGGS. (This was the first collaboration for Rodgers and Hammerstein who would go on to write "Carousel", "The King and I", "South Pacific", "Flower Drum Song" and "The Sound of Music" among others); Sets designed by LEMUEL AYERS; Costumes designed by MILES WHITE; Choreographed by AGNES de MILLE; Directed by ROUBEN MAMOULIAN; Produced by THE THEATRE GUILD ..... DETAILS: The 32 page playbill measures 5 7/8" X 8 7/8" inches and includes full production credits, cast list, synopsis of scenes, list of musical numbers, bios of each of the leading actors and wonderful vintage advertising but with the exception of the front cover, no cast photos ..... CONDITION: With the exception of light edge wear, this playbill is in excellent condition and will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any musical theatre aficionado or historian. This item will be carefully packaged in a protective, carded sleeve and backed by stiff cardboard.
