Pravin Gordhan’s former colleagues credit his hard work at SARS

PRETORIA – SARS Commissioner Edward Kieswetter has paid tribute to Pravin Gordhan as a man of his word, who followed through with impactful action.

He says unlike many of his critics who presented South Africans with empty promises, Gordhan’s work was impressive.
 
Gordhan’s daughters have described him as a devoted father who not only cared about his family, but all South Africans.
They’ve pledged to continue his principled legacy, and urged all those who care about the country to do the same.
 
According to Reserve Bank Governor, Lesetja Kganyago, Gordhan built a formidable institution in the South African Revenue Service. 
He says SARS is a world-class institution today because of the work Gordhan put in. 
Kganyago was one of many speakers at a Gordhan’s memorial service held in Pretoria on Monday.
 
 
Gordhan’s commitment to democracy never wavered. 
That’s the word from former Finance Minister, Trevor Manuel.

Manuel hailed Gordhan as a leader who cared about the betterment of South Africans.
 
 
Gordhan’s leadership was one that stood firm even in the midst of whatever would shake. 
Those are the words of former Finance minister Nhlanhla Nene. 
He says this is the time to emulate Gordhan and ensure that the fight he fought against corruption is carried forward.
 
 
Gordhan’s tenure as Commissioner of the South African Revenue Service (SARS) from 1999 to 2009 is widely regarded as one of the most transformative periods in the agency’s history.
Former national Treasury DG maria amos says his leadership, grounded in strong ethics and values, played a significant role in building SARS into an effective and trusted institution.
 
 
His former colleagues have credited him with turning SARS into one of the most efficient revenue services in the world.
